The Grand Finale

I've been promising it for weeks while I neglect my blog, but here it is. Just in time for summer.

My coup de grace.

My sister is pregnant and was talking at dinner recently about the pregnancy test and how sensitive she was about taking it. She didn't want to tell her husband until she was absolutely sure. She didn't want to alarm him.

I, on the other hand, am all about alarming people. And I had three guys in mind.

Men, as you know, are terrified of finding out that they've impregnated a girl. Particularly if they're not married - or even dating. Oops!

I have three friends in various stages of relationships who were about to be pranked. The first one, Paul, has been dating his girlfriend for about 18 months. A good, healthy relationship. His girlfriend is awesome. She was glad to play along. My sister peed on the stick and gave it to Paul's GF, who hid it conspicuously in her apartment bathroom right before Paul and I showed up.

Paul's reaction was priceless. "What the....?" came from the bathroom. He walked out with the test in his hand, his other hand on his forehead, his jaw open, and his face ghostly white.

His GF pretended to be surprised that he'd found it. I just beamed.

"Oh, honey," she said.
"Holy shit," he replied. And again. And again.

He was good, though. He pretended to be happy about it. Then he was beyond relieved when we told him it was a joke. They're still together.

More soon on my other friends, one of whom doesn't have a girlfriend, but a friend with benefits. That was the fun one.

I'm Still Here

Sorry about going MIA. I am on sabbatical for a few more days. But don't worry, I have an absolutely historic prank to write about before summer break. You will not be disappointed.

First Review of Bad Little Fall

Mike asked me to tell you that the first review has shown up on his book, and it's really good! Good thing his mom decided to post something nice. Mike also tells me that he's received several very positive e-mails from people about the book. The prevailing opinion is that it's a great story with a surprising ending. Remember that you can buy the book in paperback or e-book format. Anyway, here's the review (5 stars!) that appeared today:

Michael Colucci’s first mystery/crime book, “Bad Little Fall” is a very well written book. As one that can usually figure things out after a chapter or two, I found that there were twist and turns and a few surprises in the story line, which made the ending somewhat unexpected and satisfying.

What I really liked about "Bad Little Fall" is that the author “made introductions” of his main characters and thier surroundings to his readers. Although I would have liked to have had more back ground information on them, I think that the author is being very smart in his writing, he has left the reader wanting more, which gives this new author the opportunity to turn this book into an interesting series. I also enjoyed that he included little facts about his home state of Maine.

I appreciated the fact that there was not a lot of “fluff” in the story line to just take up space for the sake of taking up space on a page. The story line was direct and interesting. There was not a spot in the book that “slowed” down to a point were the reader would begin to get bored or disinterested. This is a book that is difficult to put down. I have recommended it to others and with summer coming up soon this would make a great beach book!

My hats off to Michael Colucci, I look forward to reading more about Max and his friends in the future.

Recycling an Old Prank With Improvements

By now you've probably read my stories of waking my residents up with hidden alarm clocks and about waking my professor up with a late-night call. Well I like to learn from past pranks and then make improvements. This one is subtle but key.

I have a friend who claims that he wakes up when the sun shines through his curtain every day. He doesn't require an alarm clock. I've heard him talk about it since last year.

Another friend just brought a spotlight to school and was demonstrating to me how bright it is. This, of course, gave me an idea.

At about 3am, we rigged the spotlight outside his dorm room window and pointed it right at the window. This gave the illusion of daytime; of the sun coming up.

And then we waited in the hall outside his room.

True to his word, he stumbled out of his room just 15 minutes later, bleary-eyed, wearing his shower shoes and carrying his shampoo and soap. As much as I knew this was a possibility, I couldn't help but laugh. He just said good morning and walked into the bathroom.

10 seconds later, he walked back out with a "You got me" grin on his face. He told me that my laughing at him had confused him, but he figured it out as soon as he saw the darkness through the bathroom window.

"Good one," he said. "Good night." And he closed his door again. But then it opened and he stuck his head out and yelled, "And turn that goddamn light off!" and slammed the door again.

I think this spotlight might provide some good fun as finals approach.
